exotic snack

I know that when it comes to nuts, raw is best. But, it can get boring. Despite popular belief, nuts are not a great source of protein. A good source of healthy fat yes, protein...no. The great thing about nuts is that you can have the correct portion size and feel satisfied until your next meal. When great flavors are added into the mix, it can excite your taste buds. When it comes to flavored nuts, be mindful of the amount and type of ingredients.

Yesterday I was shopping at Costco and found Sahale Snacks Nut Blend: Pomegranate Pistachios with Almonds, Cherries, and Black Pepper. Sounds interesting right? This nut blend is delicious and a little goes a long way! You should try them.

Nutrient Profile (1/4 cup):
160 calories
10 grams fat (good fat)
3 grams fiber
7 grams sugar (some coming from the dried fruit {natural} some coming from added sugar {organic evaporated cane juice, organic tapioca syrup, brown sugar, fruit juice})
5 grams protein

party food

Deep inside I have really good ideas for this blog. Yet, when it comes down to it I cannot find the time I need. I truly appreciate the support of the few readers I have. I love getting emails about a recipe or a product. AND, I absolutely love creating individual meal plans, something that I used to do at my old job. I may not be the most regular updater, but I appreciate you reading when I do.

The giveaway is still going on {check it out here} tell your friends to Follow Bite Rite. It will continue through Memorial Day. The more entries you submit, the better your chances are!

Since I am home alone {on a Friday night} with a sick, sleeping little girl I will leave you with some scenes from her birthday party.

Here is my baby girl. She turned two and we wore matching purple gingham. Please forgive my air dried hair and no make-up, I had risen at 4 am to run 13.1 and made it home 60 minutes before the party started.
The food table:
 Homemade mac and cheese using Quinoa noodles {recipe here}:
 Carrots and cucumber with cottage cheese dill dip:
 Lemon Blueberry cupcakes {recipe here}:
 Grape Italian Soda Bar {frozen concentrate, sparkling water, real whipped cream}:

the banner and cupcake toppers were from {this} etsy seller.

over the top insanity

I just watched a ridiculous video. It is complete insanity. You would look like a complete idiot for 10 days (see above photo). Plus, it costs $1500 dollars.
Visit the link {here}

Several people have asked for a link to follow Bite Rite on Facebook, {here it is}

Don't forget to enter the giveaway so that you can teach your children that the answers to a healthy lifestyle are 1. a healthful diet and 2. daily physical activity - not walking around with a tube down your nose.

Get your kid to eat anything + Giveaway

Marion Nestle made a few new book suggestions on her blog {here}

They all look so great!
I just ordered, French Kids Eat Everything: How our family moved to France, cured picky eating, banned snacking, and discovered 10 simple rules for raising happy, healthy eaters.

I feel as though my kids are pretty darn good at eating, especially for American standards. However, we still deal with food fights, food ruts, and refusing to eat. Plus, they are like their mother and love treats. I know my kids probably snack too much and not always on the best things for them. I am sure I will learn a lot from this book. There is always room for improvement! I'm so excited for it to arrive!

I am also very excited for this giveaway! It has been a while since I hosted a giveaway and this is a good one!

Marion Nestle also reviewed this book on her blog.

spring pilates trial

Come try Pilates and get ready for summer!
If you are training for any running events this year, Pilates is a must! It really helps to stretch and tone your muscles and reduces the risk for injury. After a long run last weekend, I hopped on the reformer and stretched. The next day I didn't have an ounce of soreness!

For the month of April, buy a 3 pack of private Pilates lessons for $60
That is less than what you would pay for just one private equipment class at any studio or gym.
